Happiness is decorating a NURSERY!

While growing up I think all girls spend hours daydreaming about their weddings, picturing the perfect home behind the white picket fence (not my thing...but whatever) and how many babies they will have with prince charming and what their names would be. Then we wake up...haha. Isn't it funny how life never really turns out how we planned or how we had perfectly orchestrated it in our minds. I know mine hasn't...it has turned out so much BETTER. If you would have told me I would marry a blue collar worker, live on a dirt road (with a neighbor who has crazy donkeys & peacocks and a husband who has a cat, that I loathe) AND actually LOVE living in a small town with one stop light and a high priced grocery store, I would have given you the one eyebrow-raised look, that I am famous for. I thought for sure when I left Sour Lake, Texas, I would never move back to a small town where everyone knows your name, your business and every time you leave your house. But none-the-less, I love it and this might actually be the first time I have admitted it. Trent has never heard me utter these words...I may regret this revelation, sooner than later.

Out of all my endless hours of daydreaming and planning, I don't think nursery plans ever crossed my mind. Of course, I always wanted children but I never thought it would actually happen. It is hard for me to believe I will have a baby around Labor Day...OF THIS YEAR :) After I found out we were expecting I started perusing different magazines and websites and I was always drawn to "boy" rooms. I was 100% convinced I was having a boy...down to the fortune I got in my cookie. Depending on which Chinese Calendar I consulted it said I was having a boy. I think I found one that indicated a girl! I did do the pencil test and the ring test and the mother in law test...they all pointed to a girl! But still, deep down in side I thought it was a boy! I think I was in shock for the first few minutes after the ultrasound tech said it was a GIRL! But I knew right away her name would be Brooklyn Marie. The same day her nickname was born..."Beamer"...Brooklyn Marie Wolfford...BMW. That was never part of my daydreams, that's for sure.

I knew from the start what I didn't want for her nursery but not necessarily what I did want. I know I keep saying "I", but Trent leaves all the decorating up to me. He had white sheets and a white blanket, with very few things hanging on the walls when my 27 foot U-Haul showed up in the drive-way :)

I started looking for shabby chic, vintage nursery ideas. I wanted something cozy, with dim lighting, soft neutral colors and something perfect for a dainty little girl. I ended up with two different fabrics from the Christie Brinkley Collection at Joann's Fabrics and some cream color chenielle fabric for the accents. I hung sage green curtains in the window along with a candleier (uses candles...mainly just for looks...not real bulbs) with small crystals. I found a lady at Larry's Trade Days, in Winnie, who makes large vintage letters and I bought a "B" from her. The "B" has found a home in the window sill for now. I don't really have a theme for her nursery but I do have a nice collection of vintage, tea-dyed bunnies. I plan to add a few more to her collection before she arrives. I chose a chocolate brown chenielle rocker/recliner for her room also. A lot of mom's told me to make sure I got something comfy because I would probably be spending plenty of time rocking my sweet baby girl.

Her room is still a work in progress...once I get everything complete and everything where it goes I will post more pictures but here are a few for now. Her quilt is actually hanging on the wall behind her bed. I figure she won't get much use out of it now, so why not use it as decoration. I will post a better picture of the candleier soon, you really can't see it too good in the picture below because it is hanging too low and blends in with the "B". I bought the candleier while I was in Ellicot City, Maryland, a few weeks ago visiting my sister. It was the neatest shop (built in the side of a cliff) and I knew the moment I saw it that it must come home with me and that it was perfect for Miss B's room. My sister was NOT convinced it would fit in my luggage, but I was going to show her! hehe

So pretty! I sit in my rocker now more than when she was littler. We sit and read or I watch her play in her room. When she was younger I just nursed her in bed (when she was in the cradle in our room till age 3 months) or while watching Law and Order on the couch (it is always on some channel even at night!) Before Livi was born I would sit in her rooma nd just cry because I could not belive that my dream was finally comming true! BTW where are the belly pics???
